Expanding Cultures

Welcome to the site of the Expanding Cultures Conference 2007

The City of Stonnington, supported by the Cities of Yarra, Melbourne, Moreland, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Boroondara and Port Phillip and the Cultural Development Network, are proud to present what we anticipate will be an interesting and stimulating collegiate exchange on the contribution of arts and culture to the strength of local communities.

The Expanding Cultures conference will focus on the contribution of arts and cultural development to the strength and well-being of local communities.

Conference themes:

  • local government’s engagement with Indigenous art and culture
  • improving evaluation of arts activities and cultural development programs
  • the changing shape of community cultures and their impact on local government in Victoria
  • arts as a vehicle for building and strengthening communities and facilitating social inclusion
  • the impact of arts activities on health, education and economic development
  • innovative partnerships

Expanding Cultures will be of particular interest to decision and policymakers in government (especially local government) as well as staff engaged in arts and cultural planning and programming. Professionals including arts and culture workers, planners and programmers, community service officers, economic development, community, social urban and environmental planners, as well as councillors, public policy developers and
community leaders, academics in cultural studies, social policy, human service and artists and arts workers engaged with communities should find the conference of interest.
