Walter Saunders is a Kilkarer/Gilgar man of the Gournditch-jmara from Lake Condah in Victoria. For more than 30 years Walter has been a tireless advocate for Indigenous rights at all levels. Through diverse professional positions, Walter has ensured exceptional outcomes for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. As the Director of the Australian Film Commission, Indigenous Branch, from 1993-1999, he was instrumental in the development of the careers of many Indigenous writers, producers, directors, actors and technicians. Walter has worked on the development and implementation of many new and innovative projects to address Indigenous disadvantage. Walter is a member of the National Indigenous Arts Industry Reference Group of the Australia Council.
