Verity Higgins has worked as a director, actor, project co-ordinator, and lecturer in performing arts since graduating from the VCA some 20 years ago. From coordinating and directing playwriting workshops with the ANPC, to playing a distraught mother on Blue Heelers, to devising a show with senior citizens, to making a video – Makin Pichas -with Indigenous youth, Verity has embraced the diversity offered by a career in the Arts Industry. She has directed for festivals, theatre companies, tertiary institutions, high schools and as a freelance artist and received awards for directing, acting and project management. In 2005 Verity worked in the UK as Assistant Director for North Country Theatre. On returning to Australia she has taken up a position of Regional Arts Development Officer with Regional Arts Victoria, based in Ballarat, hoping to help improve the landscape for regionally based artists.
