The Hon Richard Wynne

The Hon Richard Wynne, Minister for Local Government, Victoria was appointed to the dual roles of Minister for Local Government and Minister for Housing after the 2006 Victorian election. Sitting within the Department for Victorian Communities, the Local Government portfolio includes a range of activities that relate to the Victorian Government’s A Fairer Victoria $1.6 billion action plan to create opportunity and reduce disadvantage, and supports the local government sector to build stronger local communities across the state. As Minister, Mr Wynne is also responsible for several Acts of Parliament, including the Local Government Act 1989. After being elected to Parliament as the Member for Richmond in 1999, Mr Wynne served as Parliamentary Secretary for Justice. Following re-election in 2002, Mr Wynne assumed the role of Cabinet Secretary. Before entering state politics, Mr Wynne was a Melbourne City Councillor for six years, serving one year as Lord Mayor in 1991.
