‘Meet, Meld, Merge’: Art Bringing a Community Together:
the ‘Toil Art’ Project, in Yea, north-eastern Victoria. May 2008
A recent, unique, community art project, Toil Art, focuses on the much utilised facilities of the Yea Public Toilets; with the aim of people now stopping for a ‘Wee and a See!’ The concept for the project began at the ‘Meet, Meld Merge’ forum run by Berry St with the support of the Cultural Development Network, in September 2006. On this day, participants were asked to brainstorm a new project for their community, and the first idea for ‘Toil Art’ was born.

Wild Earth Blanket: Wildscapes of Warringine Community Art Project
Article by Jenny Macaffer, Coordinator, Social Planning & Community Development, Mornington Peninsula Shire
The Wild Earth Blanket (WEB) encourages us to engage in a dialogue with ourselves and others. It is a symbol for self reflection, a beautiful piece of community art, and a story of the sacred ways of nature, and our place in the world. The WEB started as a community art project to connect health and well being with the natural bushland of Warringine Park in Western Port, Victoria. It was initiated at Wild Discovery Day at the Park on 6 October 2007.

Housing
Community capacity building: a practical guide
Housing and Community Research Unit, University of Tasmania
Developing the capacity of communities has become an important part of the broadening role of many state and NGO agencies. Rowland Atkinson and Paul Willis report on a review of the community capacity-building literature and give a plain language introduction to the do’s and don’ts of approaching the development of skills and abilities in communities. The guide stresses that there is a need to engage communities to identify their own needs, rather than parachuting pre-conceived ideas of what might work best.
