This page offers a schema of measurable outcomes of cultural engagement in the environmental domain, articulating the relationship between cultural acitiity and people’s relationship with the built and natural environment. It should be read in conjunction with the pages on measurable outcomes in the cultural, economic, civic and social domains.
These outcomes are currently in draft form and are being refined as we examine more theory and research and consult environmental policy experts. In the meantime, we recommend that those seeking to evaluate the environmental outcomes of their cultural activities use measures from their own organisation’s strategic documents or requirements of funding agencies.
These outcomes are:
1. Positive sense of place in the local built and natural environment engendered
2. Valued connection to the natural world inspired
3. Understanding of ecological issues increased
4. Contribution to neighbourhood character, including regeneration, made
